Biography: Jakub Procinski (1810–1894) was a Polish artist and miniaturist of Czech origin. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1834 to 1838. He worked in Lviv and Kamianets-Podilskyi. He lived for a long time in the estate of the Hutten-Czapski family in Myropil (Zhytomyr region), where he worked as a drawing teacher.

Object description

The romantic female portrait by Jakub Procinski is a copy of the painting "Girl with a Scarf" by the renowned 19th-century Austrian portraitist Friedrich von Amerling (1803–1887). On a dark background, the full-height vertical composition features a bust-length profile of a girl wearing a red floral scarf around her neck. The young lady's charming, rosy face is turned to the left, with a dreamy gaze looking upward. Her dark hair is casually gathered into a high bun at the crown of her head. She wears small earrings as her only adornment. The white blouse barely covers her shoulders. The portrait is rendered in warm, vibrant colours.

Inscriptions

On the reverse, on the stretcher, is the inscription: "Jakub Prociński".
