Object description
The sculpture depicts the figure of Mark the Evangelist with a book in his left hand and a figure of a lion, a symbol of the saint man. The work is skilfully performed. Mark the Evangelist is dressed in a long tunic covered with small straight lines of folds and a cape fastened on his right shoulder. The Mannerist style is reflected in the elongated proportions of the man’s figure. The vertically flowing folds of clothing enhance the frontality of the figure. The sculptor skilfully reproduced the elongated face of the saint man, namely a high open forehead, almond-shaped eyes, a sharp straight nose, masterfully sculpted hair, and a lush beard that frames the oval face with soft waves. The sculpture comes from the village of Bishche.
