Object description
The painting is a copy of one of two identical versions of "The Crowning with Thorns" by Antonio Circignani. Both compositions were executed in the early 1620s when the master was influenced by Caravaggio's circle. The canvas depicts Christ in a crown of thorns with his head bowed. Two executioners flagellating the Saviour are represented behind. The composition was most likely based on the works of the Caravaggio artists and influenced by Caravaggio's work "The Crowning with Thorns".
