Object description
Sculptural images of angel heads are often found in the decoration of churches, in the interiors of churches, where they filled the empty spaces of iconostases and altars. Such sculptures became most common in the Baroque period. Artists gave their works individual features, creating a unique range of exciting types. A cute cherub with fluffy, slightly pink cheeks from the village of Navariia has a clear and expressive facial contour. Playful wavy curls of engraved hair frame an oval face with a high forehead, a small upturned nose and plump lips that dominate the image. The look in the eyes, covered by the arches of the eyelids, is full of thoughts. Small gilded wings complete the whole image.
