Object description
The bust shows a monk who bowed his head to the right shoulder; his eyes are raised, and his glance is humble. The sculptor carved the face with smooth movements of the chisel, conveying the skin's smooth texture. The hair pattern is characterised by its graphic nature; it is neatly fixed in curls, which wrap the tonsure parallel to each other on the back of the head and temples. The man is depicted in a religious habit with a hood, which frames the neck with a clearly defined line in a circle. The monk's clothing is modelled by straight lines, which, crossing, create solid large extensive planes. The transition to Classicism is noticeable in a stiff posture, plastic head movement, and smooth modelling of the wooden surface of the sculpture.
