The work is rendered in vibrant and contrasting colours. The ploughman, dressed in white clothes and a yellow hat, follows a plough pulled by a red horse. A purple ploughed strip stretches underneath them. Further in the distance, the painter depicted a pond with dark green water, on the shore of which a tree grows. Mykhailo Boichuk often incorporated plant elements into his other works, appealing to an ancient ornamentalism. A grey sky with subtly greyish-purple clouds stretches over the figures. In the foreground, there is also a sketch of a second horse, depicted from the knees up, pulling something tensely with its head lowered. This horse is painted in dark ochre tones and is set against a green background. On the reverse of the work, there is a pencil sketch of a male figure and an ornament.
