The sheet features a full-length portrait of Polish artist Juliusz Fortunat Kossak, executed in charcoal. The drawing is a copy of a posthumous portrait created by Leon Jan Wyczółkowski in 1900 (the original is in pastel). The image is treated in a generalised manner, with an emphasis on the basic proportions and silhouette of the head. The model's gaze is directed slightly downward, which corresponds to the original work, where the calmness and concentration of the image are emphasised. The artist conveys the sitter's characteristic features – a slightly elongated face, moustache, beard, and high forehead. The lines are rendered clearly and with restraint, without detailed work on the texture and details of the clothing. Hatching is used sparingly, only to indicate volume and anatomical accents. Compared to the original by Leon Jan Wyczółkowski, executed in a soft pastel manner with rich, nuanced tones, the drawing has a more academic and research-oriented character. The overall composition and recognisable features of the model have been preserved. Thus, the drawing is an example of Yulian Zaiats' copying practice, which aimed to capture the morphological features of the portrait subject and study the work of other European artists.
