Object description
The portrait depicts a young woman turned three-quarters to the left against a dark olive background. Although there are no records about the identity of this person, one can discover much about her from her clothing, jewellery, and pose. She is dressed simply and elegantly. Despite her modest and unassuming appearance, the gaze is direct, confident, and directed towards the viewer. Her eyes have a sense of melancholy, and her lips are pressed together as if concealing emotions. The woman has dark hair parted in the middle. She wears two rows of pearls around her neck. The portrait reflects Holland during the seventeenth century, where some of the finest and most poetic portrayals of women were created.
