Object description
Mikolaj Ignacy Wyzycki's visitation reports (1741) state that there were four altars in the Church of the Holy Trinity: the high altar – to the Mother of God, and three side altars – to the Holy Trinity, St. Anthony, and St. Stanislaus. It is from the Trinity Church that one of the allegorical sculptures, located on the side altar of the church, originates. It is a polychrome, full-bodied female figure in an exquisitely graceful pose with her torso slightly tilted to the right, her left leg exposed, and dressed in a golden robe. Her lovely facial expression with its even features is complemented by an exquisite hairstyle with wavy strands braided into a bun. A long dress with a low neckline and dynamic drapery of separate geometric planes ending in a pointed tip wraps the female figure in a kind of cocoon. This drapery style is typical of the Lviv school of sculpture of the second half of the 18th century.
