Biography: Leonid Khyzhynskyi (January 3, 1896, Kyiv – December 27, 1972, Moscow) was a Ukrainian soviet graphic artist, illustrator and follower of Heorhii Narbut. He received his art education at the Kyiv Art School, where his teacher was H. Narbut. In 1920–1922, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Kyiv in the studio of M. Boichuk. In 1922–1927, he studied at the Saint Petersburg Higher Art and Technical Institute. From the 1930s, Khyzhynskyi lived in Saint Petersburg. From 1965, he lived in Moscow. He mainly worked in book graphics: covers, frontispieces, headpieces, brand names, and bookplates. He was engaged in engraving on wood and linoleum, etching and lithography. He designed works by Maksym Rylskyi, Mykola Bazhan, Gottfried Keller, Carlo Goldoni, Prosper Mérimée and others. Khyzhynskyi's works were displayed at the exhibitions of the ANUM in Lviv (1932, 1933–1934) and numerous other city, republican, All-Union, and foreign art exhibitions.
