Biography
Olena Sakhnovska (May 15, 1902, Kyiv – March 28, 1958, Moscow) was a Ukrainian graphic artist in easel and book illustration and bookplates. She studied at the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts in the studio of the monumental painting of Mykhailo Boichuk and the graphic workshop of Sofiia Nalepinska-Boichuk (1921–1926). Later, she studied at the printing faculty of the Kyiv Art Institute (1927–1929). The artist participated in the mural painting of the Red Army Lutsk barracks in Kyiv (1919) and the pavilion of the Ukrainian SSR at the I Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow (1923). She joined the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine in 1925. Mostly, she worked in the technique of xylography, later – lithography. In the book graphic art, Sakhnovska created her style based on the traditions of Ukrainian book illustrations of the 16th–18th centuries.
