Object description
The folding fan is made of ivory. It consists of 17 thinner (0.01 cm thick) and two thicker (0.2 cm) plates, which are strung on a silk cord and fastened with a metal plate to which a silk cord with three knots and two fringes is tied. There are two identical relief drawings on two thick plates; the traditional Japanese landscape painted with the varnishes of golden-brown and golden colors is depicted on the unfolded plates of the fan. The image is two-sided. The plates are marked with Roman numerals. The numbers are out of order. The fan is made for export to Europe.
