Madonna With a Child
Information about author
The central part of the work is taken up by the image of Madonna with a child. Two figures are depicted against a dark background. One can see the Holy Virgin Mary, in a red tunic and dark blue omophorion, and little Jesus, in a long white shirt with his arms folded on his chest. In the eighteenth century, images in the paintings acquired human feelings and emotions close to reality. On the back of the work there is an inscription: "Boże poblagoslawim żucic Jozefu i Leopxlou zaslubla.. na … ni roku 1889 | od ojca i matki". Judging by the inscription, the icon was intended as a gift from the parents for the engagement of two young people – Josefa and Leopold.
