Mikolaj Potocki (1712–1782, Pilawa coat of arms) was an elder of Kaniv, a son of Stefan Potocki, the voivode of Belz, and Anna (Joanna) Sieniawska. He was a famous philanthropist. Prominent architects and sculptors of the 18th century such as Bernard Meretyn, Johann Georg Pincel, etc. were of service to Mikolaj Potocki. Several versions of Potocki's portraits have been preserved. They are made in the same painting technique, the only difference is in color and small details of the clothes. The man is often depicted in a grotesque and satirical way. In the painting, the face of the person portrayed is the most impressive: with a long crooked nose, thick smiling lips, a massive chin, high forehead and curled mustache. The figure of a man is turned three-quarters to the right. Mikolaj Potocki is depicted in a light robe and a terracotta brown kontusz, girded with an expensive Slutsk belt.
