Object description
The artwork, credited to an unknown 17th-century Dutch artist, depicts an animalistic scene. Birds (a goose, a parrot, a duck, a heron, and a crane) are presented on the left, and animals (a goat, a ferret, a fox, and a cheetah) are on the right. They are getting into a fight, as evidenced by their bared teeth and outstretched wings. Such animalistic images were frequent in Dutch paintings of the time and had a hidden allegorical meaning. Popular moralistic fables and emblematic literature inspired the content of the works.
