Object description
The design of the hand cross is of the seven-pointed type, with an elongated central cross. The compositional solution is simple and laconic, characterised by fine carving with a graphic interpretation of details. Iconographic images on both sides occupy the central frame and part of the central core. On the front, the folk artist used a traditional compositional solution for the crucifixion scene. The full-length figure of Christ is carved in the central part of the stem. On both sides, at the ends of the central frame, are graphic figures with schematically worked-out details. The area of the middle and lower frames is separated from the overall composition and filled with parallel horizontal stripes decorated with patterns. On the back of the cross, the folk artist has carved the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child in crowns, using shallow cuts and roundings. A solid, smooth line frames the outline of the seven-pointed cross. According to the presentation and interpretation, based on the research of M. Stankevych, the liturgical object belongs to the works of folk artists with pronounced signs of "primitivism".
