A grenadier is a soldier of Napoleon's Old Guard. It means "grumbler" in French. They received this nickname because they frequently complained about the conditions of service, but always remained loyal to the emperor. The soldier is depicted in a winter cloak, a high fur hat, and long pants. With his right foot out and stepping forward, he holds his fusil in front of him, preparing to attack. Behind his shoulders is a satchel with a rolled-up raincoat on top. On his left side is a saber in a scabbard, and on his right is a holster with grenades. The warrior has a thick moustache on his stern face. At his feet are the remains of the enemy army's horse harness.
