Object description
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, bourgeois portraiture was widespread in the western territory of Ukraine. Gradually, it lost some attributes common for noblemen portraits. It became less important for customers to show their social status. More essential was to immortalise the image of a respected person for relatives or the community. The portrait shows a bust-length image of an unknown man in a proud pose. The profile figure of a man with a blue ribbon and the Order of the White Eagle stands out from the dark background. The artist focused on depicting the portrait features of an elderly nobleman.
