Object description
The portrait has been mentioned in the inventory records of the Pidhirtsi Castle since 1768. In 1859, the work known as the portrait of Potocki, the elder of Kaniv (Kaniow), was in the Dining Hall. The portrait shows a nobleman with a blue ribbon of the Order of the White Eagle over a red kontusz, which acts as a bright spot in the painting. The artist skillfully depicted the image of an elderly and charismatic man. The painter realistically painted the features of the portrayed man, namely a shaved head, sagging skin on his neck, small eyes with a piercing look, and a thick gray mustache.
