Object description
Compositionally, the work belongs to a specific type of sculpture known as putto, representing a child with wings, symbolising a precursor of the earthly or angelic spirit. The sculpture depicts an angel in a graceful pose with the head turned to the left shoulder and the arms extended to the right. The smooth, soft contour line envelops the rounded forms of the child's body, skilfully and anatomically accurately reproduced by the sculptor. The round face with a double chin, plump cheeks, a snub nose, wide-open eyes, and an open mouth has a dreamy expression. The hair seems to be fluttering in the wind; the tiny wings are slightly raised, and the body is arched in a curve – these details create the illusion of flight. The author masterfully conveys the emotionally elevated image of the angel.
