Object description
The angel's head is turned and slightly tilted toward the left wing. A smooth line outlines the oval, graceful cherub's face. Childishly plump cheeks, a double chin, a snub nose, and slightly parted lips give the sculpture a unique charm. The distant gaze emphasises the thoughtful image of the angel. The distinctive feature of the work is the hair, neatly arranged in a circle, trimmed above the forehead and at the back of the head – a hairstyle atypical for angels. The strands of hair are rendered with parallel, shallow, straight, engraved lines that wrap around the upper part of the head. The work has a significant loss of polychrome, which does not allow us to fully comprehend the sculptor's original intention. The manner of execution of the angel's head imitates the cherub under inventory number C-I-1574.
