Object description
The painting, created by an unknown German master, depicts one of the most common iconographic themes in art – the Madonna and Child. The Virgin Mary holds Jesus in her arms, gazing at Him sorrowfully. Her red clothing symbolises divine, royal origin, while the green represents her purity. The Child, whose gaze is directed at the viewer, reaches out with His hand toward the Virgin. On the right, John is depicted in profile, adoring Christ with his hands folded in reverence. The painting was intended for private prayer.
