The pencil copies by Yulian Zaiats reproduce two famous works by Maurice Quentin de La Tour, preserving the expressiveness and psychological depth characteristic of the originals, but rendering them in black and white. The first is a pastel portrait of Louis XV. In the original, the artist creates a solemn yet gentle image of the monarch, emphasised by light tones, smooth transitions, and refined details. In Y. Zaiats' version, these qualities are conveyed through careful hatching, which models volume and chiaroscuro with particular attention to the texture of fabrics and the clear outline of the face. The second is a self-portrait by Maurice Quentin de La Tour, probably from the mid-1750s. The original is distinguished by the directness of the gaze and subtle self-irony, which is evident in the artist's slight smile and lively facial expressions. The graphic copy retains this psychological expressiveness: fine lines and delicate tonal transitions convey an attentive gaze, natural posture, and the characteristic softness of the master's portrait composition.
