Object description
The work represents the Virgin Mary and the Child on the throne in the colouristic manner typical of Venetian artists of the second half of the 16th century. A group of angels and cherubs surrounds them. Two Franciscan saints are standing before them, worshipping Mary with baby Jesus. One of the angels shows the monks a lily, a symbol of the Virgin Mary's purity and chastity, and the other demonstrates a crown, indicating that she is the Queen of Heaven. The expressive strokes and stylisation of the figures testify that the work was created under the strong influence of Jacopo Tintoretto. The painting represents the upper part of a larger composition.
