Object description
The image of a woman in a long blue dress is turned three-quarters to the left. From the woman's left shoulder falls a wide ribbon of dark pink colour, which is tied in the form of a large bow on the woman's right thigh. In the right hand, the woman holds a mimosa branch, and in her left hand, there is a fan in the form of a palm leaf. The woman's hair is gathered in a smooth hairstyle. On the left side of her head, there's a butterfly hairpin. The etching comes from the album "Chinese Customs and National Costumes", which includes 60 images of Chinese people engaged in various activities. An explanation in German accompanies each image; some are written in French. In the eighteenth century, artists in Canton (Guangzhou) in southern China created such paintings for Europeans seeking to learn more about China and its people.
